Default New to Guild Wars

Hello, I am new to guild wars, I have bought the trilogy, with the expansion packs..

I noticed you can be an Assassin on "Factions" but not on Nightfall, so I guess, the question is..

Should I start from the very beginning? And then go to Factions, then Nightfall?

Or...should I just start in Nightfall and not make an assassin?

Make an assassin if you like, but don't worry about the starting point being in Factions. A quest will open to you later that will allow travel to Elona (Nightfall). Assassins and Ritualists have starting points in Cantha. While Paragons and Dervishes start in Elona. The other 6 core professions can start anywhere.

Factions is a nice starting point IMO. You get to level up very quickly due the high experience awarded by the quests.

Assassins can only be CREATED in Factions, but you can play all campaigns and expansions with it (as soon as you unlock campaign travel).

Thank you for the replies, much appreciated..

Curious to know if Assassin is good in PvE?

Is there a ton of PvE for end-game content? I am looking for a long term game...

Assassins are generally good in pve, but you might find situations where assassins aren't efficient. A/Me is a very specific farming build which you can farm with pretty easy.

IMO sins are better in pvp than pve but they are very good in pve too. It's just as I said most assassin skills have bleed effect and you will find situations where you have mobs surrounding you with no flesh ( e.g. Spirits, undead) where your A will not be effective. But it's a good class in both pvp, pve, easy manageble with nice armors. I highly recommend A for a new player especially.

I'm sure others have explained, you can be an Assassin and do all the things that Prophecies and Nightfall has to offer. You can also create a Dervish and do all the Factions and Prophecies missions. The only thing that effects your toon is where you are born (the campaign you start in). ALmost everything with regards to the campaigns is do-able. You won't ever hear "Sorry, you can't do that because.....!" with the exception of the pre-areas!

I heard people do the hard dungeons in like 20-30 minutes, when they take like 2 hours..

Is there a lack of end-game content?

Hey, I just recently bought the Trilogy as well, and have started out as a Assassin. I think it is a really fun class to play. For my general build to get through the classes, I think early off your given enough stuff to have fun with.

I put most of my points in Critical and Dagger.

It's alot of fun using:

Jagged Strike ---> Fox Fangs ---> Death Blossom

When you get those three skills it's fun picking a target and sending your party after them, then you hit them with that and BAM there health goes down pretty quick.

If you have any questions just let me know, Like i said I'm new so maybe I can help you with some questions I already have had!

@Archer 32

I think you are referring to the speed clears of dungeons, where people take a specific team build (usually comprised of assasins with the elite shadow form) and complete the dungeon quickly just to get to the end-chest. There isn't really a lack of end-game content; there are just builds and strategies that make some of the end-game content easier.

"End game" is really;

* filling HoM
* completing titles (especially GWAMM)
* getting the best/most expensive weapons and armor

Dungeons I guess are part of the end game, (completing them can help towards titles,) but as they are easily beatable with heroes, they're just like more content; not like instances in other MMOs.
